Many thanks for the updates, no matter how small they may seem, they are all positive steps in the recovery process. Rose, you are a real fighter, and you have a wonderful man in your corner. Prayers still going up from here.

Eddie, would it help if all of us got into our old high school cheerleader out fits and tried to cheer Rose on? A good laugh wouldn't hurt and people she knows will be in rehab with her once we try.

Billie, I'd even pay to see that. Rose was transferred to the Rehabilitation Facilty late yesterday afternoon. I just got a call from the case worker and will talk with her this morning when I go in. Rose had told her to call me so it shows she realizes that she wants me to help with any decision making. She's to get 3 hrs a day with physical and occupational therapy. She knows this will be a wakeup call with people doing everything for her and she will have to take responsibility for her physical recovery. When they put her in her bed yesterday, they told her to grab each side of the bed handles and pull herself up rather than them pulling her up. At the hospital yesterday before the transfer, she told me that the therapist had her on a walker in the hallway. Mainly to give her some confidence that she could stand on her right leg and did a little walking on the walker.

Eddie, I have missed all of this news the past few days. I am back in FL at my sister's house. We have been pretty busy and I don't have my computer with me. Today Sue and I are having an easy day. Her husband, all called Eddie, is playing golf. We are hanging out at home.
Tell Rose that we are all so very proud of her. I know it is hard work but I also know that she can do it and she will.
Billie may have an old cheerleading outfit but I never made the squad. I happily cheer though from whatever sideline I am needed on.

Eddie and Rose----God does answer prayers. You are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Thank you for keeping us updated. I shared with Amy about what has been going on and she told me to tell you that she is praying for you and she knows that you will be back home real soon.

Computers are everywhere -yesterday in Rose's hospital room, today in the patient lounge at the Rehab Facility. I'm here while Ro is taking her Physical Therapy. The therapist said she is doing very good for someone having a stroke only a week ago. They started out just giving her a four prong cane and assisting her as she walked about 20 feet. No bedtime time today. They got her up and started occupational therapy with ADLs (showering and dressing). Put her in a wheelchair to sit-up rather than lay in bed. The wheelchair was big enough for the Jolly Green Giant and I got them to change it to a regular lighter weight wheel chair. Although they don't allow family during PT, they allowed me to come today for the evaluation so I did get to see a little. I could see Ro keep looking at me sometimes for clarification of what the therapist was saying. So I decided to leave and let her work through everything on her own feeling I was in the way of her progress. Since this is an acute facility it is short term. Then we need to start chemo to try to impede the cancer. One day at a time ......

Eddie, It sounds like the therapy is going well for Rose. After just a week and she is walking with a cane, YEA! she will be out of there in no time and starting the big fight, the chemo. I pray all goes well with that. I can tell you love her so much. Love can heal a lot of things. My best to you both. I have my husband praying for her, I remind him every night to pray for Rose. Last night when I told him not to forget to pray for Rose he started singing " Don't Forget To Give My Love To Rose" the Statler Brothers song. I'm sure you know that one.

Eddie, I've gotten behind in reading about Rose because in the last two weeks, I almost lost my mom twice. She had some pretty serious heart issues going on and was in and out of the hospital. It was a very worrysome time for us. I've read through your posts about Rose and thank you for sharing all that is going on with us. I know it must be difficult at times for you to put all that is going on and what you are feeling into words, but you are doing a wonderful job of keeping us updated. You and Rose have been through so much recently, and to hear of Rose's progress since her stroke is really awesome. That little gal is capable of making great strides in recovering! Give Rose our best; and we are all here to support you, Eddie, as you stand at Rose's side while your love for her helps to empower her to get better. We all know you're an extraordinary husband, too. Who else would be happy to see a well-placed dirty look from his wife??? Take care. May God be with you and bless you both. Carolyn

As many things this past week have been difficult, there have been some joys as things began improving with the stroke. The cancer condition remains as serious as it was and chemo will begin when the rehab finishes. But tonite the speech therapist came in late to do an evaluation. Speech was never a problem but she advised that her job also included dealing with cognitive issues so I felt this was an area that we needed to take advantage of. She gave Rose tests to determine her ability to recall from memory, do reasoning, evaluate drawings, read and write. She must have asked 40 or 50 questions that required Ro to recall 4 numbers, 5 numbers,.... up to 8 numbers. Ro did well and only stumbled on the 7 and 8 number recalls - heck I couldn't remember them either. She asked her to alphabetize several three word groups, asked her to name three red things she could eat, asked her to name three powder things that could be poured. She was required to answer questions regarding drawings. She read three different paragraphs verbally and asked Ro to answer questions about the previously read passages. She was asked to name as many animals as she could in 60 seconds - she named at least 20 animals - I was stumped after lion, tiger and giraffe. She was asked to read two printed questions and then write the answers. Then asked to sign her name. I was amazed she could write the answers and sign her name. I showed the therapist a sample of her signature from a few days ago which was nothing more than scribble. She was given a page that had four rows of letters and asked to cross out the "E's".There must have been 20 "E's", she got 19 of them and even I missed the 20th.
My girl kicked the therapist's butt and answered 98% of the questions correctly.

Eddie, would it help if all of us got into our old high school cheerleader out fits and tried to cheer Rose on? A good laugh wouldn't hurt and people she knows will be in rehab with her once we try. [/Billie, You sure have the right attitude. I wasn't a cheerleader but a majorette. Put me in my outfit and she would have a big laugh, when I wore it I weighted 90 lbs. Would that work. bring your outfit to the Festiful and the rest of you all with one and I'll bring mine plus baton and well cheer Rose on. Well need pictures of that. LOL
